Zelenskyy urges Trump to visit Ukraine amid peace talks
Ukrainian leader suggests Trump fly directly to Kyiv to demonstrate US commitment to ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday urged U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine to help end Russia's full-scale invasion that began in February 2022. Speaking from a WhatsApp chat with reporters, Zelenskyy said he would welcome Trump flying directly to Ukraine rather than to neighboring Poland, calling it "very useful" for demonstrating U.S. support for a ceasefire. The appeal comes after Trump met with Zelenskyy in Florida on December 28 and spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone. Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine is discussing the possibility of U.S. troop deployment as part of a security guarantee to prevent future Russian attacks. The talks follow overnight drone strikes that damaged residential buildings in Odesa, injuring six people including three children, and damaged 25 energy facilities in the Odesa region since January 2025.
