Zahawi joins Reform UK, poll falls to 24%
Reform UK faces concerns over Nadhim Zahawi's defection amid a drop to 24% support in latest poll.

A former Tory minister, former chancellor for 63 days and ex‑education secretary, Nadhim Zahawi announced on 12 January 2026 that he was joining Reform UK. Nigel Farage unveiled him at a press conference, claiming the UK “needs Reform”. Inside Reform officials, however, fear the move could look like opportunism and paint the party as a refuge for ex‑Tories. The news came as a Sky × Times YouGov poll released on 13 January put Reform at 24 % support – its lowest level since April – down two points, while the Conservatives rose to 20 % and Labour to 19 %. The drop follows a decline from a peak in October and a broader recovery of the Tory brand.
