Authorities allege the offence took place in Rio during the championships, when Agnel was 24 and the victim was the 13‑year‑old daughter of his former coach. Prosecutors filed the case on 16 January 2026, after a police investigation that included surveillance footage and witness statements. The case is set to be heard in Paris, where Agnel faces potential prison time and a ban from international competition.
