A strong winter storm is moving east across the United States on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, bringing dangerous winds, heavy snow, and ice. More than 125 million Americans are under wind alerts from Vermont to Texas, with gusts up to 60 mph in Cleveland, Ohio. A blizzard warning is in effect for over 2 million people in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan's upper peninsula, with Marquette, Michigan, reporting one foot of snowfall. Minneapolis, Minnesota, is under a winter storm warning until 9 a.m. CT, with 1 to 3 inches of snow expected. An ice storm warning is active in northeast New York and Vermont, with ice accumulations of 4 to 7 tenths of an inch, making travel impossible. By New Year's Eve, snow is expected in the Northeast, and rain will affect California. New Year's Day will bring lake effect snow to areas like Orchard Park, New York, and rain to the West Coast.
