Victim’s testimony secures 8‑year jail term for Oban child‑home rapist

Alexander Boyd, a 56‑year‑old social care officer, was convicted in Glasgow’s High Court on 7 January 2026 for sexually abusing two girls aged 12‑16 at a residential unit for looked‑after children in Oban, Argyll and Bute, between 1999 and 2001. Boyd groomed the victims under the guise of friendship, using mobile‑phone top‑up cards and driving them in his vehicle. One victim died before the trial; her handwritten statement and recorded police interview were key evidence. Boyd was arrested in November 2022 and charged with two counts of assault, two counts of rape and two counts of indecent behaviour. He received a 10‑year extended sentence: eight years in prison and two years on licence, and was added to the sex‑offenders register indefinitely.
