Vancouver Whitecaps Reach Proposed Settlement in Messi No-Show Class Action

The Vancouver Whitecaps have reached a proposed settlement in a 2024 class-action lawsuit stemming from the no-show of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets during an Inter Miami CF match at B.C. Place on May 25, 2024. The settlement, subject to court approval on Feb. 27, 2026, will see the club pay $475,000 (minus up to one-third in legal fees) to three charities: KidSport B.C., Canada SCORES and BGC South Coast B.C. The plaintiff, Burnaby resident Ho Chun, originally sought refunds for unused tickets and partial refunds for used tickets, alleging a 'bait-and-switch' after the stars were heavily advertised but only withdrawn days before the game. The club will also revise ticketing terms to state player rosters are subject to change.
