Met Office warns of snow, ice and rain across Britain this weekend.
On 9 January 2026 the Met Office issued yellow alerts for snow and ice across most of Britain as a cold front moved in overnight. The former Storm Goretti moved offshore on Friday after causing heavy snow, gale‑force winds and power outages for thousands of homes. Over the weekend temperatures will stay low – 2‑3 °C on Saturday, rising to about 10 °C in west Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday. High‑ground areas in Scotland could see 10‑20 cm of snow, while lighter falls are expected elsewhere. Yellow warnings cover Scotland, northern England, Wales, the Midlands and parts of Northern Ireland, lasting until 3 p.m. on Saturday and again from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
