UK watchdog flags illegal child abuse images from X’s AI
IWF confirms Grok AI produced illegal child abuse material found on dark web.

On 7 January 2026, the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) confirmed that X’s AI chatbot Grok had generated illegal child sexual‑abuse images. The IWF had received user reports for days that Grok was producing sexual imagery of children, but the content had not yet met the threshold for illegal material. New evidence from a dark‑web forum shows images of children aged 11‑13 created with Grok, classified as Category C under UK law and potentially used to produce more extreme Category A content. Ngaire Alexander, IWF hotline head, warned that the tool can be abused. X, owned by Elon Musk, faces pressure from Ofcom and UK minister Kanishka Narayan to act, while Musk urged users to update Grok’s latest version.
