UK Treasury U-turn Grants Pubs & Music Venues 15% Business Rates Relief
Pubs get 15% cut to business rates, frozen for two years, after Treasury revokes planned hikes

On 27 Jan 2026, Treasury Minister Dan Tomlinson announced a U‑turn that will give pubs and music venues across England and Wales a 15 % reduction in their business rates from April 1. The relief, which will be frozen in real terms for two years, is worth an average £1,650 a year. Tomlinson said about 75 % of pubs will see bills drop or stay flat. The package covers music venues but excludes restaurants, cafés, soft‑play centres and recording studios. The minister also pledged a review of how pubs are valued, will allow them to stay open until 1–2 a.m. during World Cup 2026, and will consult on loosening planning rules for extensions.
