UK to Grant Visa-Free China Trips After Starmer Visit
Brits can now travel to China visa-free for up to 30 days after Prime Minister Starmer's visit.

After Sir Keir Starmer’s historic visit to Beijing on 29 January 2026, China has agreed to grant UK citizens visa‑free access for stays of up to 30 days. This follows the first UK prime ministerial trip to China since 2018, when Theresa May visited. The policy places the UK alongside almost 50 European and Commonwealth states already enjoying the same benefit. Companies such as HSBC, KPMG and Standard Chartered welcomed the move, while Business Secretary Peter Kyle highlighted new growth opportunities for UK legal, financial, health and education services. Both sides also pledged to explore a bilateral services agreement and “feasibility study” on further cooperation.
