Uber Faces Service Dog Ride Rejections in Canada

Salome Solomon, a legally blind Ottawa resident, reports she was denied Uber rides 20 times last year when her guide dog Zurich was present. She filed multiple complaints, citing drivers’ refusal to transport her. Similar grievances came from Toronto rider James Wilkinson, who was rejected six times in 2025, and Milton’s Larissa Proctor, who saw only one denial after activating Uber’s new self‑identification feature in March. Uber Canada says its 2024 policy requires all of its >100,000 drivers to accommodate service animals and trains them with an educational video each year. The company issued a $15 credit and investigated each incident, but riders say the problem persists.
