Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua injured in Nigeria crash that killed two team members

Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, 36, was injured in a car crash in Nigeria on Monday, December 29, 2025, that killed two close friends and team members. The accident occurred around noon local time on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu, Ogun State, approximately 30 miles from Lagos. The black Lexus SUV carrying Joshua lost control while overtaking and crashed into a parked red Sinotruck. Sina Ghami and Kevin 'Lateef' Ayodele, described as integral members of Joshua's team, died at the scene. Joshua and another injured person were taken to hospital in stable condition. Nigerian federal road safety corps preliminary findings indicate excessive speed and wrongful overtaking caused the crash. Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally called Joshua to offer condolences and wish him a speedy recovery. The crash occurred just over a week after Joshua's sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami.
