Two ICE Agents Put on Leave After Pretti Shooting

On January 28 2026, CBC reported that two U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were placed on administrative leave after the fatal shooting of 37‑year‑old ICU nurse Alex Pretti on Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Video shows the agents, a Border Patrol guard and a customs officer, firing multiple shots as Pretti declined to move when ordered out of the street. Pretti carried a legally permitted 9‑mm handgun; the agents later removed the weapon before opening fire. The incident marks the second fatal encounter involving ICE agents and U.S. citizens in Minnesota in January, following the death of Renee Good on Jan 7. Pretti’s parents hired former prosecutor Steve Schleicher, who worked on the Derek Chauvin conviction, to represent them. CBP says the leave follows standard protocol and a review is underway.
