Two explosions reported in Iran - as Israel denies involvement
Five killed in gas explosions in Iran’s Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz on Jan 31, 2026, Israel denies involvement.

On 31 January 2026, two gas explosions rocked Iran, killing a total of five people and injuring 14. The first blast struck the southern port of Bandar Abbas, where a four‑year‑old girl died and an eight‑storey building sustained extensive damage to its first to third floors. The second, located more than 1,000 km away in Ahvaz, killed four residents. Local media, including Fars and Tasnim news agencies, reported that the fires were caused by gas and that Israel had denied any involvement. The Tasnim agency dismissed rumours of a Revolutionary Guard commander being targeted as “completely false.” The Bandar Abbas incident occurred at the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane handling roughly a fifth of world seaborne oil, heightening regional tensions amid increased U.S. military activity.
