Trump's Unprecedented Diplomat Recall Sparks Concerns Over Foreign Service Politicization
30 career diplomats recalled in historic move

The Trump administration has initiated an unprecedented recall of 30 career diplomats from ambassadorial and senior embassy posts worldwide, marking the first such mass removal since the modern American Foreign Service was established in 1924. The move affects chiefs of mission in 29 countries including Niger, Uganda, Senegal, Somalia, Nigeria, Egypt, Slovakia, and others across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. According to John Dinkelman, president of the American Foreign Service Association and former diplomat, this recall is 'institutional sabotage' that will 'undermine the United States' role in the world.' The administration claims the reshuffling supports Trump's 'America First' priorities, but critics warn it politicizes the diplomatic corps and will leave over 100 ambassadorial posts vacant - about half of all such positions globally. Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul called it a 'horrible idea' that eliminates crucial expertise needed for foreign policy execution.
