Trump Pulls Canada Out of Gaza Peace Board
President Trump retracts Canada’s invitation to join his Gaza peace board after a clash with PM Mark Carney.

On January 22, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he was withdrawing Prime Minister Mark Carney’s invitation to join the ‘Board of Peace’ aimed at rebuilding Gaza. The board was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and already has 35 signatories, including Israel, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Trump had also extended an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Canadian Finance Minister François‑Philippe Champagne said Ottawa would not pay the $1 billion fee for a permanent seat. Carney, meanwhile, was attending a cabinet retreat in Quebec City rather than Davos, fueling the diplomatic spat.
