‘They Stole from Ollie’: Sister Demands Action After Gambler's Suicide
Oliver Long, 36, died by suicide after illegal overseas betting sites lured him despite self‑exclusion.

Oliver Long, a 36‑year‑old from East Sussex, was found dead by suicide on 23 Feb 2025 after a long‑term gambling addiction. In 2022 he used GamStop to self‑exclude from UK betting sites, but in 2023 began betting on overseas, unlicensed operators. Bank statements show he lost £20 000 in April 2023 alone, and during the height of his addiction he lost his home, his job and his long‑term partner. His sister Chloe says the illegal sites actively targeted him, circumventing self‑exclusion tools and exploiting his vulnerability. The coroner, Laura Bradford, recorded a short‑form conclusion of suicide, while the inquest on 13 Jan 2026 raised the gambling industry’s blind spots. Tim Miller of the Gambling Commission urged stricter enforcement against predatory operators.
