Sydney shark attacks: 12‑year‑old boy and man critically injured
Three shark bites in two days leave a boy and a surfer in critical condition.

In Sydney’s outer bays, three separate shark attacks occurred over two days. A 12‑year‑old boy was bitten while jumping off rocks at Shark Beach, Vaucluse, suffering severe leg injuries and succumbing to critical physiological trauma. A surfer was attacked on North Steyne Beach, Manly, with a leg bite leaving him critically wounded. An 11‑year‑old boy narrowly escaped when a shark bit the tip of his surfboard off Dee Why Beach; lifesavers rescued him unharmed after a 15 cm bite mark. Supervisors say heavy rainfall and fresh water created brackish conditions ideal for bull sharks, the species suspected in the incidents. NSW police and Surf Life Saving deployed jet skis and drones to patrol the waters. Australia records about 20 shark attacks annually, with under three fatalities.
