On 1 January 2025, a blaze broke out in the Swiss bar Le Constellation, killing 40 people and injuring more than 100. Jacques Moretti and his wife Jessica ran the venue. Moretti was arrested on 9 January 2026, and a court had ordered his detention for three months pending the investigation, citing flight‑risk concerns. On 23 January 2026, the Swiss court granted him bail on the condition he remains in the country, surrenders his documents, and reports daily to police. He paid a bail of 200 000 francs (≈£190 000). Both are suspected of negligent homicide, bodily harm and causing a fire by negligence; the investigation continues.
