Swindon ex‑councillor Philip Young pled guilty to 48 sexual offences, including 11 rapes.

49‑year‑old former Swindon councillor Philip Young pleaded guilty on 23 January 2026 to 48 serious sexual offences. From 2010‑2024 he committed 11 rapes, 7 penetrative assaults, 4 touching offences, 11 drug‑induced encounters, 14 voyeuristic acts and distributed obscene photos and videos on more than 200 occasions. An additional 500 non‑consensual media releases were also admitted. Young was arrested in 2024, divorced his wife Joanne Young, and was remanded at Bullingdon Prison. The case was heard at Winchester Crown Court, and the judge expected an approximately six‑week trial from 5 October. Wiltshire Police detective superintendent Geoff Smith praised the victim’s bravery and noted the extended timeline of abuse. Four other men faced related charges, including Norman Macksoni, Connor Doyle, Richard Wilkins and Mohammed Hassan.
