Last fall, climbers in Squamish, B.C., lost a prized 32‑kg granite boulder nicknamed ‘Portable’. The stone was missing for months until 23‑year‑old climber Ethan Salvo discovered it in Bishop, California, after a photo posted online. Salvo and a local friend retrieved the rock, which Salvo confirmed by touch and weight. He plans to bring the boulder back to its home at the base of the Superfly boulder in Squamish. The rescue, reported by CBC News on Jan 21 2026, lifted the community’s spirits and highlighted the stone’s cultural importance to local boulderers.
