At 18:49 GMT on 11 January 2026 a blaze erupted at the Southall recycling centre in West London, engulfing 15 tonnes of waste. Firefighters from Southall, Hayes and Feltham stations, along with surrounding units, were dispatched within minutes. No casualties were reported, and containment was achieved by early afternoon. The incident followed a surge in waste collection as the Elizabeth Line construction prompted increased landfill activity. Emergency services initiated water suppression and asbestos containment procedures. Investigators are assessing whether a kiln malfunction or electrical fault sparked the fire.
