Idris Elba fined £147 for moped speeding in London after announcing a Netflix film about the King’s Trust.

Sir Idris Elba (53) was caught speeding a 28mph ride in a 20mph zone on Chelsea Embankment in central London on 21 June 2025 at 10:12am. He was fined £147, received 3 penalty points, £110 court costs and £59 victim surcharge. The incident followed a day of announcing a Netflix film on the King’s Trust. Elba pleaded guilty and had a clean licence, but missed a fixed penalty offer of £100 due to a procedural delay. The case went to Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 23 Jan 2026. The incident comes after Taylor Swift’s 2019 song referenced him.
