Saskatoon Skier Maïa Schwinghammer Heads to Milan 2026 Olympics
Saskatoon's freestyle skier Maïa Schwinghammer is set to compete in the 2026 Milan‑Cortina Winter Olympics.

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Maïa Schwinghammer began skiing on the modest Mount Blackstrap hills before being towed on a snowmobile across Christopher Lake. She joined the provincial freestyle team at age 15 and the national squad at 17, traveling to World Cups in Chile, France and the U.S. After narrowly missing qualification for the 2022 Beijing Games and a setback at the 2019 World Championships, Schwinghammer won her first World Cup medal in Deer Valley, Nevada, in 2025, securing her place in the 2026 Milano‑Cortina Olympics. The athlete, who has said she loves having fun despite the pressure, now prepares for her Olympic debut in Milan, Italy, where she will compete in the moguls event.
