Saint John woman recovering after moose kicked her in the head during collision with car
Courtney Deveau, 28, suffers traumatic brain injury, fractured jaw and ribs in Highway 7 moose collision

Courtney Deveau, 28, of Saint John, N.B., is recovering from a traumatic brain injury after a moose collision on Highway 7 near Geary, N.B., in early December 2025. The moose struck the Volkswagen Golf she was riding in with boyfriend Zachary Legacy, who was driving. As the dying animal tried to lift its legs off the car, it kicked Deveau twice in the head. She was placed in an induced coma at Saint John Regional Hospital's ICU with a fractured jaw, ribs and severe brain trauma. Three weeks later, she shows progress—blinking, speaking, writing and walking with assistance. Her mother Jennifer Deveau said full recovery may take months. Legacy suffered only a bruised forearm. The Grand-Bay Westfield RCMP confirmed the collision but provided no further details.
