Russian Officials Threaten Zelenskyy After Alleged Drone Attack on Putin Residence
Russia claimed Ukraine launched a drone attack on Putin's Novgorod residence on Dec. 29, prompting threats from Russian officials.

On December 30, 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed Ukraine launched a drone attack on President Vladimir Putin's state residence in Novgorod region on December 29. Lavrov provided no evidence for this assertion. In response, Russian Security Council member Dmitry Medvedev threatened Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying he would have to 'stay in hiding for the rest of his worthless life' and suggesting Zelenskyy should be 'exhibited' in St. Petersburg after his 'imminent demise.' Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Ushakov told Tass that Putin discussed the alleged attack with U.S. President Donald Trump during a phone call. Ukraine's air force reported Russia launched 60 drones and two missiles overnight into December 30, with 52 drones and one missile shot down. Russia claimed four Ukrainian drones were shot down over Krasnodar region. Zelenskyy dismissed the claims as Russian disinformation.
