Russia Claims Ukraine Attempted Drone Attack on Putin's Residence
Russia says Ukraine launched 91 drones at Putin's Novgorod residence; Zelenskyy denies involvement.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on December 29, 2025, that Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones at President Vladimir Putin's state residence in the Novgorod region between December 28-29. Lavrov claimed all drones were destroyed by Russian air defenses, calling the attack "state terrorism" and warning of selected retaliatory targets. He added that Moscow's negotiating position in ongoing peace talks would be reviewed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the accusation, calling it a lie and suggesting Russia was preparing to strike government buildings in Kyiv. The incident occurred during U.S.-led peace negotiations, with Trump reportedly offering 15-year security guarantees to Ukraine. It remains unclear if Putin was present at the residence during the alleged attack.
