Archaeologists working in Rome unsealed a buried shrine devoted to the Greek hero Hercules, uncovered on 15 January 2026. Excavations beneath иттипақ layers of ancient mud revealed a stone altar and six marble statues of Hercules, each about 1.8 m tall, arranged in a semicircle. Radiocarbon dating places the shrine in the 2nd century BC, indicating the cult of Hercules was active in the Roman countryside. The find, reported by a team from the University of Rome, shows Greek mythologies were integrated into Roman worship. The six statues offer fresh insight into how Greek deities were venerated in late Republic Rome, enriching our understanding of cross-cultural religious practices.
