Rainy weather delays Alex Honnold's Taipei 101 skyscraper climb by 24 hours
Rain delayed Alex Honnold’s Taipei 101 climb for 24 hours before the Netflix livestream could begin.

Professional climber Alex Honnold, known for free‑solo ascents, was set to begin a ropeless climb of Taipei 101 on Jan 23 2026. Organizers postponed the start by 24 hours after rain persisted in Taipei a few minutes before the slot, citing safety. The live event, scheduled to air on Netflix at 5 p.m. PT (8 p.m. ET) Saturday, was moved to Sunday morning when forecasts turned sunny. About 100 spectators gathered, including Taiwanese fan Queenie Chang, who welcomed the decision. Netflix officials stated that safety was the top priority and the 24‑hour postponement was made to avoid the risks of slippery surfaces. Honnold will resume the ascent on Sunday, aiming to complete it before daylight.
