Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt says Europe must do 'much more' to support revolution in Iran

On 27 January 2026, Holocaust Memorial Day, Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, president of the Conference of European Rabbis, spoke to Sky News from Jerusalem’s Western Wall. He accused Iran’s leadership, led by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of fueling antisemitism that has surged since the 7 October 2023 attacks on Israel and the subsequent Gaza war. In the war, over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed, and hate crimes rose sharply in Europe, especially in France and the UK. Goldschmidt urged EU states to back Iranian protesters: offering asylum, aiding security personnel who defect, and providing political support. He praised the UK for protecting Jews but warned that a two‑state solution remains unlikely until Tehran’s influence wanes.
