Quebec fugitive arrested in Martinique after more than 2 months on the run
Jean-François Malo, convicted of ordering a 2020 armed assault, was arrested in Martinique on December 30, 2025.

Jean-François Malo, a real estate developer from Joliette, Quebec, was arrested in Martinique on December 30, 2025, after being on the run for over two months. Malo had been a fugitive since mid-October 2025, when an arrest warrant was issued after he failed to appear for his sentencing hearing. He was convicted in May 2025 of aggravated assault for ordering an armed attack on lawyer Nicholas Daudelin in 2020, during a legal dispute with Desjardins. The assault left Daudelin shot in the leg. Malo was sentenced to five years in prison, and a second warrant was issued for allegedly breaching his release conditions. While arrested in Martinique on unrelated charges, Canadian authorities have two active warrants for his extradition. The Sûreté du Québec is validating the arrest details and may initiate extradition proceedings.
