Two officers were shot at a Lawrenceville hotel, one died and the other critically wounded.

On Sunday, February 1, 2026, two Gwinnett County police officers were dispatched to a fraud call at a hotel near Stone Mountain in Lawrenceville, Georgia—about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Atlanta. Upon arrival, they encountered a suspect who drew a firearm, shooting both officers. The officers returned fire, wounding the suspect. One officer was later pronounced dead, while the other was admitted to a hospital in a critical but stable condition.
