Petrol and diesel drivers could see major price changes within weeks as Putin bans fuel exports
Russia extends fuel export ban, potentially lowering UK petrol and diesel prices

Russia has extended its ban on exporting gasoline, diesel and other fuels to June 2026, which could lead to falling petrol and diesel prices in the UK in the coming weeks and months. The ban, originally set to expire in March 2026, was extended by Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of efforts to stabilize domestic fuel supplies. The UK government had previously seized 150,000 tonnes of Russian fuel imports in 2025, worth approximately £120 million. The extended export restrictions are expected to increase global fuel availability from other sources, potentially reducing prices at UK pumps where average petrol prices were around £1.45 per litre and diesel at £1.50 per litre in late December 2025.
