Pentecostal Social Engagement: A Theology for Real Life

At the European Pentecostal Asia Summit (EAPS) in May 2025, Professor Ulrik Josefsson presented his paper 'Pentecostals in Societal Engagement: A Theology for Incarnational Transformation.' Josefsson, who holds a PhD and MA from Lund University, shared his journey from pastor and missionary to professor. He emphasized that Pentecostal social engagement stems from human nature, the need for practical love in secularized Sweden, and theological conviction that salvation encompasses body and soul. His research highlights the interplay between theology, emotion, and practice as central to Pentecostal Christianity. Josefsson noted that Pentecostal initiatives in Ethiopia showed greater sustainability than NGOs due to their theological and communal roots. He advocates for incarnational transformation where faith impacts personal life, church, and society. Josefsson currently serves as President of the Academy for Leadership and Theology in Sweden and supports theological education in East Africa.
