Oxford Village Rejects £500k 'Eyesore' Home Development
Parish council vows fight to stop £500k homes on village outskirts.

On 26 January 2026 a parish council in the leafy village of Thorington—just south of Oxford—threatened to mount a robust defense against a developer’s proposal to erect three suburban homes, each valued at £500,000, on the outskirts of the settlement. The plan, which would add 12,000 square metres of new residential space, was criticised by residents who argue it will create an ‘eyesore’, distort the rural character, and come at a time when the council has yet to complete the housing it previously agreed to construct. The council’s spokesperson said, ‘We didn’t ask for this, and we haven’t even finished building all the housing that we agreed to take on before.’ The developer, who declined to comment, claims the project will bring much-needed housing and job creation to the area.
