Ofwat probes South East Water after thousands of homes lose water
South East Water faces investigation after 8,500 homes in Kent and Sussex cut off from water.

On 15 January 2026, Ofwat began probing South East Water (SEW) after persistent water cuts left roughly 8,500 addresses in Kent and Sussex without supply for nearly a week. The interruptions started in November, and in December Tunbridge Wells suffered a sustained outage that left about 24,000 properties and businesses without drinkable water for almost two weeks. SEW attributed the current disruptions to power cuts and burst pipes caused by Storm Goretti’s overnight fall‑off. While the company has restored water to about 16,500 homes in East Grinstead, about 6,500 properties in Tunbridge Wells still rely on a boosted system, and several hundred others in the south Tonbridge area experience intermittent supply. Ofwat is assessing potential licence breaches, including customer‑service obligations.
