NORAD: Russia & China Tighten Arctic Co‑Operation

On Jan 12 2026 CBC interviewed U.S. Air Force Gen. Gregory Guillot, NORAD commander, who said Russian and Chinese forces have layered their Arctic operations. He cited at least eight separate 2025 incidents where Russian aircraft entered the Alaskan Air Defense ID Zone in international airspace, and noted that ships—often in fleets of four or five—appeared repeatedly north of Alaska. Guillot warned that these incursions are coordinated between air and sea to test U.S. and Canadian responsiveness. The report also covered China’s second‑year research vessel patrols off Alaska and U.S. Army counter‑drone tests by the 11th Division near Fort Greely and Fort Wainwright. Discussions on Canada’s possible participation in the U.S. “Golden Dome” missile‑defence system were also highlighted.
