Murder investigation launched after death of 66-year-old pensioner punched outside Leicestershire pub

A murder investigation has been launched in Leicestershire following the death of 66-year-old David Darke, who was punched outside a village pub. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 27, 2025, at The Red Lion in the village of Croxton Kerrial. Darke was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but died later that day from a serious head injury. Leicestershire Police have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he remains in custody for questioning. Officers are appealing for witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.
