Mississauga Man Wins Court Battle Over City's Tall-Grass Bylaw

Wolf Ruck, a longtime Orchard Heights resident, sued the City of Mississauga after the city began cutting his lawn for exceeding 20 cm in height and for nuisance weeds. Beginning in 2021, the dispute spanned three years of complaints (Aug 2021, June‑July 2022, May 2023) and culminated on January 9 2026 when the Superior Court ruled in Ruck’s favor. Justice M.T. Doi found that the bylaw violated Ruck’s freedom of expression and declared it unenforceable, though it denied his $2.46 million claim. City spokesperson Irene McCutcheon said the city is reviewing next steps.
