Minnesota sues DHS over ICE shooting

On January 12, 2026, Minneapolis ICE agent fatally shot 37‑year‑old Renee Good, a claim DHS says she tried to run over officers, local officials dispute. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, accompanied by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Saint Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security to end what they call an unconstitutional federal invasion. The suit alleges the federal surge has conducted unlawful stops, raids, and general sweeps, violating the 10th Amendment and violating state law. Governor Tim Walz visited Good’s memorial and urged de‑escalation. DHS spokesman said Ellison prioritizes politics; Secretary Kristi Noem announced “hundreds” more federal officers were deploying to Minnesota.”,
