Meet the doctors for Canada’s men’s and women’s Olympic hockey teams — who happen to be married
Married doctors Bennion and Auld will lead Canada’s Olympic hockey medical teams in Milan.

Dr. Laura Bennion, from Vancouver, and Dr. Ian Auld, from Victoria, are the married lead physicians for Canada’s women’s and men’s Olympic hockey squads. They will travel together to Milan‑Cortina in Italy for the 2026 Winter Games, which begin on Feb. 4. Bennion was in Switzerland preparing for athletes after the PWHL’s Olympic break, while Auld is readying for the men’s team. The couple, who studied medicine together, noted that this is the first time a husband‑wife pair has concurrently headed both hockey programs. They emphasize mutual support and readiness to address injuries, jet lag, doping education, and family needs during competition.
