Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology to Close as International Enrollment Falls
MITT will shut down in 2026 after a 55% drop in international students, per provincial memo.

The Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) will cease operations by the end of 2026‑27 after a steep 55% decline in international enrollment, which cut its revenue from $23.2 million to $9.5 million. The provincial government, citing an unsustainable financial model, issued a memo to close the Winnipeg‑based school over the next year. MITT had 4,663 students in 2024‑25, of whom 1,988 were international. Advanced Education Minister Renée Cable said the closure was a direct result of Ottawa’s cap on international students. Remaining programs and staff will be transferred to RRC Polytech, with all current students guaranteed completion of their credentials.
