Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Punch Outside Leicestershire Village Pub
Nathan Gothard, 36, charged with murder after 66-year-old David Darke died six days after being punched outside the Crown Inn in Appleby Magna.

In North West Leicestershire, 36-year-old Nathan Gothard is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday, 29 December 2025, charged with the murder of 66-year-old David Darke. Darke died in hospital on Saturday, 28 December, six days after he was punched and suffered a serious head injury outside the Crown Inn in Appleby Magna. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45pm on Sunday, 21 December, when Darke was outside the pub. Gothard, a local resident, was arrested at the scene. Darke's family described him as a "devoted family man" and a proud grandfather to three boys. Leicestershire Police confirmed the arrest and stated Gothard has been charged with murder.
