Man shot dead by armed police after car crash in Thetford, Norfolk on Sunday night

A man was shot and killed by police in Thetford, Norfolk on Sunday 28 December 2025 at approximately 8:25pm. The incident occurred after a two-vehicle collision on London Road. According to Norfolk Police, the man believed to be the driver of one vehicle left the crash scene holding what was described as a handgun. Armed officers responded and shot the individual nearby. The man was pronounced dead at the scene despite receiving medical treatment. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an investigation into the shooting. The A11 remains closed in both directions from the Thetford Ranges roundabout to the Brandon Road roundabout. Norfolk Police Assistant Chief Constable David Buckley stated that while armed officers respond to hundreds of firearms-related calls annually, incidents where police discharge firearms are extremely rare. Police confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
