Major Water Main Break Triggers Flooding, Boil Water Advisory in Calgary

A major water main break occurred on 16th Avenue N.W. in Calgary's Bowness neighbourhood on December 30, 2025, causing significant flooding that required Calgary Fire Department crews to rescue 13 people from seven stranded vehicles. The break, near the CP rail bridge at 69th Street N.W., led to a boil water advisory for parts of Parkdale, Montgomery, and Point McKay communities. The city activated its Emergency Operations Centre and Municipal Emergency Plan. The incident affected water service to approximately 2,000 homes and 100 businesses. No serious injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation, but it's believed to be related to the Bearspaw south feeder main, similar to a catastrophic break in the same area in June 2024.
