London and Edinburgh welcome 2026 with spectacular displays
Over 100,000 people gathered in London and 40,000 in Edinburgh for New Year's celebrations.

On January 1, 2026, London and Edinburgh celebrated the arrival of the new year with spectacular fireworks displays. More than 100,000 people gathered along the River Thames to witness London's largest fireworks show, featuring over 12,000 fireworks and 400 lights around the London Eye. The 12-minute display included tributes to England's Women's Rugby World Cup win, the Lionesses' Euro retention, and Europe's Ryder Cup victory. Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations attracted over 40,000 attendees, featuring thousands of fireworks above Edinburgh Castle, an outdoor street party, and a concert by Wet Leg. Mayor Sadiq Khan hailed London's display as "the greatest in the world," marking a return to full celebrations after weather-related cancellations in 2025.
