Life Sentence for Murder of Lapu‑Lapu Accused Killer’s Brother

On January 28, 2024, 41‑year‑old Dwight Kematch stabbed and bludgeoned Alexander Lo, 31, during a visit at his Vancouver home. Lo was the brother of Kai‑Ji Adam Lo, the accused driver in the Lapu‑Lapu Day car‑ramming attack that killed 11 people. Kematch, who met Lo through the dating app Grindr, pleaded guilty in July and was sentenced by Justice F. Matthew Kirchner at the Vancouver B.C. Supreme Court. He received a mandatory life sentence, with no chance of parole for 13 years. The court noted the brutal nature of the assault and Lo’s vulnerability. Lo’s mother, Lisa, testified that the murder caused her severe emotional distress and loss.
