Le Massif ski season halted amid union dispute
Resort cancels season, but meeting may spark resolution

Le Massif de Charlevoix, Quebec's flagship ski hill, shut its slopes for the 2026 season after a 300‑person union rejected a new contract on Jan. 2 and the collective agreement expired Dec. 31. Management and workers were summoned to a conciliation meeting on Jan. 20, the day after the resort announced it would not reopen. The dispute centers on wages, subcontracting, sick leave, safety and vacation time. Local mayor Serge Bilodeau warned the closure would hurt the Charlevoix economy, while tourism director Mitchell Dion said the situation could be settled before the high‑winter rush. Conciliators hope a solution will be reached by week's end, offering a lifeline for local businesses and seasonal workers.
