Lancashire Prison Worker Jailed for Inmate Relationship and Drug Smuggling
Former rehab worker jailed for dating inmate and smuggling drugs into Preston prison.

On 20 January 2026, a former rehabilitation worker at a Lancashire prison was sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered he had a relationship with inmate Mohammed Ali and smuggled 12 kilograms of cocaine and other illicit items into the facility. Police intercepted the evidence at the worker’s home in Preston and traced the drugs through CCTV footage. He was charged with breach of trust, drug trafficking and conspiracy to facilitate offence. The case was heard at Preston Crown Court, where he received an 8‑year sentence. The incident has prompted a review of staff vetting procedures across all County lines prisons in the UK.
