Labour Exposes Pothole Crisis – Only 16 Green Scores
Only 16 English councils earned a green pothole‑repair rating in government data, exposing a nationwide maintenance crisis that Labour demands urgent action on.

Since the government released road‑repair statistics in early 2025, Labour has highlighted a stark disparity in pothole management across England. The new dataset reveals that out of 311 local highway authorities, only sixteen received a ‘green’ rating for maintenance, while the majority are classified as yellow or red. The report, published January 11, 2026, ranks councils from fastest to slowest in addressing potholes, enabling motorists to compare local performance. The criteria, based on repair response times and volume, were applied across UK roads. Labour spokespersons have urged the Department to review funding allocations and enforce stricter contract penalties.
